4th October 2009 :: Bolsover Entertainments Contest
After being draw to play last band of the day we were all over the moon with a classey performance of our programme.
We opened up with Valero, then came a new arrangment for quartet of Ye banks and brae by Kevin Birch which featured Nicholas - Strimmer - Annette and Sarah. The dreaded solo spot fell to Sarah, with a first class performanace of The Children of Sanchez she was awarded the soloist prize from Ian Porthouse adjudicator for the contest. To calm things down we featured Annette off stage with a haunting yet beautiful piece from Kevin again called A Childs Prayer along with our back row cornets joining in the percussion effects hidden behind the band. The finale came from Paul Lovett-Cooper and his brilliant work Vitea Aturnum.
We were placed third which we are all very proud of and we were especially pleased for Sarah on her solo award...well done and thank you !!
It was a good contest day with all the planning from Carole Hirst working out just as required and all our planning of programme and performance really paying off. The band must make special mention of the presentation of their programme through compare Jane Smart who was superb fronting the band on the day.
