27th June 2009 :: Concert : In support of Combat Stress
We very pleased to be a performing at Grove Scool Market Drayton at the invite of the Blore Heath Heritage group.
The evening was to raise monies on behalf of Combat stress.
A very receptive audience were treated to a very varied concert.Soloists A.Sparkes(tenor Horn ) ,Rory Rolfe (Cornet ) and Nick Birch (Euphonium ) all in great form .
The audience enjoyed a varied concert including favourites Valero and Four Rennaiasance Dances, and the Medley "Keep Smiling Through".
The highlight of the first half was to bring to the stand the bands Composer in Residence Mr Kevin Birch to conduct his arrangement of "Prayer from Hansel and Gretal " followed by his original composition of "Blore Heath 1459" depicting the battle that took place in 1459.Requested by the organisers of the concert Kevin gave a very enlightning description of how his music was created and allowed the audience to picture the various parts of the battle .A great composition was excellently played and the audience response was excellent .
Following the interval a presentation was given by a representative of the Irish Battalian who had just returned to Turn Hill Barracks following a six month spell in Afghanistan .This was a very humbling experience for all present to hear how the young members of our forces are supported by this charity .
The band took stage again to entertain with some lighter concert items incuding "All night long "and "American Trilogy "
This was an excellent night in support of a very impportant charity and a night where the Band made a lot of new friends and supporters .
