1st November 2008 :: Concert : Longton Memorial Hall
This memorial concert was arranged by Steve Neville our third cornet player, in memory of his mother & father. Steve's parents belonged to the Methodist Church in Fenton and it was to this organisation that the proceeds from the concert were given. In total Steve raised £1400.
The band shared the programme with The Daleian Singers under their musical director, Glynn Edwards.
The band started the evening with their big band opener 'Valero' followed by 'Aspects of Lloyd Webber' and then our first soloist of the evening Nicholas Birch, on Euphonium, playing 'Donegal Bay. This solo is fast becoming a favorite with both the band and the audience.
Our second spot of the first half started with 'Muppet Show' and finished with 'Pirates of the Carabean'
The second half opened with a good old fashioned brass band march 'Cross of Honour',that certainly got the audience feet tapping. 'Sing Praises' followed,a wonderful piece of music from The Salvation Army repertoire.
Our second soloist, Clare Dixon on trombone, played 'Nobody Does it Better' a solo written especially for her by Darrol Barry as a wedding gift from her husband!
'Ill Walk with God' finished this spot. The audience applause certainly let us know how much they enjoyed this very fitting piece.
Band & Choir united together with 'Morte Christe' before the band finished the evening with 'Music'.A great ending to a splendid evening with the audience showing their appreciation with a standing ovation!
