28th March 2008 :: Contest - NABBC Conductors competition

As if March had not been busy enough ,Jef Sparkes (Musical Director) had decided to participate in one of the three regional heats of the NABBC conducting competion.
Being the modest person we all know it was left to Mr Alan Smart (Contest Secretary )to announce to the band that Jef had won this contest.This now meant he would be be invited to take part in the finals in June .
During theday each of the six finalists would have to conduct Virtuosi GUS in rehearsal, conduct one of three test pieces and also be put through intervievs and sight reading excercises with the band .
Jef was given Robert Redheads "Isaiah 40" to conduct and earned praise for his confidence and ability to communicate in front of the band.
Chris Thomas writing for 4bars Rest felt that there had been three outstanding performances on the day including that of Jef Sparkes .
The final results from the adjudicators gave Jef third place.
A great result of which we are all very proud!!
