About the band...
The United Co-op Band (Crewe) was originally formed as an RAF ATC Band at the end of World War Two by Harry Mortimer, to entertain the troops.
Over the years the band has developed a very strong competitive pedigree, but finds great enjoyment in performing regular concerts providing varied but always entertaining programmes with playing of the highest calibre.
The band enjoys creating a warm friendly atmosphere whether it is in rehearsal or concert where serious music can be fun.
In 2007 we were proud to celebrate our 50th year of support from the United Co-operative movement and look forward to many more years working together to further the work of the band both locally and as we travel throughout the country.
In recent years the band have qualified to take part in the First Section of the National Brass Band Finals of Great Britain on three occasions, gaining third place on two occasions, at Dundee and most recently at Harrogate in 2006.
In 2006 and 2007 the band returned to competing in the East Midlands Open Championships at Derby, being awarded first place on both occasions.
January 2008 sees the band return to the Championship section where we will once again be competing amongst the elite of brass bands in the country.
